Wot no Jamiroquai? The minutes from the BRITS Album of 30 Years Meeting

Location: Big Office, Soho.

Present: Record Exec 1, Record Exec 2, Record Exec 3 and Record Exec 4.

Apologies: Record Exec 5 due to prior engagement. Record Exec 6 due to Priory engagement.

RE1 welcomed everyone to the room and handed out coke and biscuits. RE2 suggested using smaller denominations of note, due to downloads. Motion was passed.

RE3 asked if he could get the list over and done with as he had a lunch appointment at 11am.

A break for coke. RE1 asked for any suggestions. RE2 said Dire Straits, because he was listening to it in the car on the A40 this morning. RE3 asked if his company had paid the congestion charge and if so, he would be bloody annoyed and wasn't the traffic horrible. RE4 agreed on the traffic and allowed Dire Straits because he had always liked Mick Hucknall. RE1 agreed with the choice though he'd never heard of the band as they were “before his time”.

RE4 nominated that one with the drums done by the gorilla, before RE1 asked if they could include Keane's Hopes & Fears. RE3 was concerned that it might be too edgy. RE2 said he'd met the man in The Priory last year and he seemed jolly nice even if his addictions seemed to be a touch forced. RE4 reassured RE3 that he was nothing to do with the footballer.

Glancing at his watch, RE3 suggested Coldplay and Radiohead. RE1 punched him full in the face. RE2 kicked him repeatedly in the guts while reminding him of Radiohead's album-sales policy. RE3 groaned out that he meant Travis all along and RE4 helped him to his feet.

RE4 suggested Oasis’s (What's The Story) Morning Glory? RE2 said that it wasn't even their best album. RE1 and RE4 looked at him blankly, while RE3 tapped at his watch and mouthed “11am”.

RE2 suggested that they could be accused of only selecting whiney MOR. RE3 said The Verve as a reflex. It was added to the nominations.

There was a break for coke. RE1 suggested that someone black might be a good idea. There was a period of silence before RE2 suggested The Streets and RE3 phoned his drug dealer. No appropriate names were forthcoming. RE1 remembered a woman his mother liked called Sadie. RE3 phoned his drug dealer again and Sade was added to the list.

RE2 said that women would be good too and mentioned “that one beginning with D”. After a period of consideration and coke, Duffy and Dido were both added to the list, with no one able to tell which was which.

That list in full:

Coldplay/A Rush of Blood to the Head
Dido/No Angel
Dire Straits/Brothers in Arms
Duffy/Rockferry
Keane/Hopes & Fears
Oasis/(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?
Phil Collins/No Jacket Required
Sade/Diamond Life
The Verve/Urban Hymns
Travis/The Man Who
